Cleaning your house on a regular basis is great! But there's dirt and grime that build up over time and cannot be removed by regular cleaning.

So, it's important to keep your home tidy and cleaned by performing deep clean every once or twice a year.

1. Deep Clean Your Microwave Oven

Finding it hard to get rid of the grime in the microwave oven?

Mix equal parts of water and vinegar into a microwave safe bowl and place it into the oven,

Leave it on high setting for 5 minutes.

In the meantime the vinegar mixture turns into steam which helps dissolve the tough stains for easy cleaning.

You should find it very easy to clean off the stains by wiping with a microfiber cloth.

Tip: You may want to add a few drops of citrus essential oil for better results.


2. Eliminate Hard Water On Faucets

Have stubborn calcium buildup on your faucets that is impossible to clean?

Wrap kitchen towel around the affected areas on your faucet and pour vinegar directly onto the paper towel until it's soaking wet.

Let the vinegar sit for about 1-3 hours before removing the towel and scrubbing the remaining lime buildup with a used toothbrush.

Rinse and dry the faucet.

If you have trouble removing the lime buildup, let it soak for another hour and it should come off pretty easily.


3. Keep The Plumber Away

Drain can get clogged up when not taken care of, so it's better to prevent the clog with this simple trick.

Here's how to clear the drain:

  • Pour a kettle of hot boiling water down sink
  • Add 4 tbsp of baking soda and allow it to sit for 5-8 minutes
  • Boil equal parts of water and white vinegar in a pan
  • Pour the boiling vinegar mix over the baking soda and wait for 10 minutes
  • Do a final cleanse by pouring a kettle of boiling water.

This chemical reaction between the baking soda and vinegar melts the residue blocking the drain.


4. Unclog Shower Head (2 Ingredients)

Lime buildup can cause your shower heads to get clogged which, affects the flow and quality of the water coming out.

But there is no need to throw out your shower head, here's what you can do instead.

Add warm vinegar and lemon essential oil into a plastic bag and tie it over the shower head with a rubber band so that it's fully soaked.

Leave it overnight before wiping clean with a microfiber cloth to turn your shower head into brand new looking.

Create a mixture by combining a liter of water and 1 cup of borax into a spray bottle.

Use a little scrubbing to get the mold off then rinse with water.


6. Window Track Cleaning Made Easy

Here are the ingredients to prepare

Place your sponge onto track and mark the sponge with a marker where there's a protruding profile

Cut a straight line where there are markings

This is how your sponge will look like...

Create a soap vinegar water solution, 5 drops of dawn dish soap and stir

Dip your sponge into the soap solution then scrub the window tracks back and forth.

The dawn dish soap will remove the grease while vinegar removes hardened residues.

The sponge will also pick up dust and dirt along the way!

7. Deep Clean The Blender

After multiple uses, your blender will start to look old and cloudy due to buildup of hard water stains.

Here's a quick fix:

Fill the blender with warm water until it is half full, add a cup of vinegar and a few drops of dish soap.

Leave the blender running for 2 minutes and rinse it clean.

You should be able to see through the blender, just like when you used it for the first time.


8. Deodorize & Disinfect Chopping Boards

Have wooden cutting board or utensils that have started to smell despite being cleaned? 

Here's what you can do

Prepare half a lemon, coarse salt, bench warm water, dry cloth then follow the 4 simple steps below:

  1. Sprinkle the coarse salt evenly on the wood surface
  2. Squeeze the lemon slightly as you use it like a brush to scrub the cutting board or utensils. 
  3. Leave it to sit for 6 minutes before rinsing off with warm water and dry clean

This method is safe for deep cleaning and disinfecting without toxic chemical hence, keeping your food safe.


9. Cleanse Your Clothes Iron

If you've been ironing your clothes regularly, then it is going to need some cleaning!

Allow your iron to heat up and set your iron to steam mode.

Wet a rag with 1 part white vinegar and 1 part water.

Iron the wet rag and you'll see gunk coming out of the iron.


10. Musty Towels No More

Have you gotten out out of the shower, held your towel to your face and got a nasty surprise?

Towel can get smelly when they don't get a chance to dry properly.

14. Deep Clean The Fridge

Remove all items from your refrigerator and freezer,

Mix one part of vinegar, part warm water and couple drops of dawn dish soap into a spray bottle.

Spray the shelves and door and wipe clean with a microfiber cloth or sponge.

15. Give Your Coffee Maker A Cleanse

Vinegar is great at removing coffee stains

Run a mixture of equal parts of water and vinegar through the coffee maker.

Allow the mixture to sit in the coffee pot for about 20 minutes before scrubbing gently with a brush.

Run 2 cycles of regular water to flush out the remaining vinegar before brewing again.

Tip: If you have tough water marks that is hard to remove, add some baking soda and scrub.


16. Clean The Ceiling Fan

Prevent dust from getting all over the place by placing an old pillowcase over each blade while wiping.

The pillowcase will capture all the dust so you don't have pick up pieces of dust around the floor.

Alternatively, you can use a wet cloth to prevent dust from flying all around the place.

Give your trash can a rinse with Borax!

Combine 1 cup of Borax with 2 cups of water and pour it into the garbage can, and swoosh it around.

Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing.

Place your shower curtain into your washing machine on the gentle or no spin cycle.

Add 1 cup of white vinegar along with liquid laundry detergent and get them cleaned.

Once done the washing is done, sundry your shower curtain before use.

Vinegar is great at removing mildew and the sun will kill any germs or bacteria on the shower curtains.


20. Wipe Bookshelves With Magnetic Cloth


Just because your bookcase is organized, it does not mean that it isn't dirty and dusty!

For a full cleaning of book shelves, wipe the top and spines of your book with a magnetic cloth.

Otherwise, use an all purpose spray and a microfiber cloth.

Remove everything from your shelves and wipe them down with a damp microfiber cloth.
